Gujarat is celebrated for its vibrant culture encompassing art, craft, business, and sports, but one of its most extraordinary attributes is its hospitality. Since 2005, under the visionary leadership of then Chief Minister, now Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi, Gujarat has brought to light a gem previously hidden in plain sight—Kutch.

White Rann of Kutch

The transformation of Kutch is nothing short of magical. Known for hosting the splendid Rann Utsav, Kutch has turned its vast salt desert into an economic powerhouse and a must-visit destination. During my visit, the allure of the "Tent City" set up in the Rann was undeniable. Situated about 417 kilometers from Ahmedabad, this temporary city offers luxurious accommodations and a plethora of activities, from cultural performances to adventure sports.

The best time to experience the sheer beauty of Kutch is during the full moon when the salt desert lights up in the lunar glow, creating an ethereal scene. Sunrise here is equally mesmerizing, painting the vast white terrain in hues of amber and gold.

Beyond the desert, Kutch is surrounded by attractions steeped in history and natural beauty. I have visited Kadiyo Dhrow which reminded me of Grand Canyon. The region is also home to Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its ancient Harappan civilization ruins. If you get a chance to visit, do explore chipper point and infinity road connecting to Dhordo and Dholavira.

For those interested in the local crafts and lifestyle, Gandhi nu Gaam is a must-visit. This village is a hub for the vibrant Banni community's art and craft. Rann Utsav is a vibrant celebration held in the heart of one of the world's largest salt deserts, which stretches an impressive 527 kilometers along Gujarat’s west coast, showcases the region’s culture, art, and crafts in a spectacular fashion.

Art can be kept alive only when Artists are encouraged

Kutch's transformation from a little-known region to a tourist haven has been remarkable. From welcoming around 3,000 visitors in 2005, it played host to over 500,000 tourists in 2022, illustrating its rise as a premier destination. Kutch embodies the infinite beauty and enduring spirit of Gujarat. Each visit unveils new sights and experiences, ensuring that every traveler finds something unique. This video shares my journey, and I invite you to explore Kutch for yourself to discover its endless wonders and understand why I call it magical!
